How to Make Reddit Story Videos With AI (Step by Step, 2027)
What are Reddit story videos?
A Reddit story video is a short, narrated video that tells a story in the style of a Reddit post: a first-person confession, an "Am I the one in the wrong?" dilemma, a revenge tale or a creepy encounter. A voice reads the story, captions appear word by word, and the background keeps the eyes busy.
They're one of the most popular faceless formats on TikTok, YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels for three reasons:
- Built-in hook. "My roommate has been lying about where he goes every night" makes people need the ending.
- No face, no camera. The story is the star.
- Endless topics. Relationships, work, family drama, horror and petty revenge never run out.
This guide shows how to make Reddit story videos with AI, safely and on autopilot, without copying anyone's post.
Read this first: can you use real Reddit posts?
Real Reddit posts belong to the people who wrote them. Reading them word for word in a monetized video without permission is the biggest mistake in this niche.
- Authors keep the rights to their stories. In 2020, r/nosleep, one of Reddit's biggest story communities with over 14 million members, went private for a week to protest YouTube narrators using stories without credit or permission. Its organizers' rule: "Permission must always be asked for." (Tubefilter)
- YouTube penalizes reused and inauthentic content. Copying other people's text and re-reading it adds little of your own, and YouTube has been demonetizing repetitive, mass-produced videos since July 2025.
You have three safe options:
Option | How it works | Best for |
|---|---|---|
Original Reddit-style stories (recommended) | AI writes a brand-new story in the Reddit format. Nothing is copied. | Daily faceless channels you want to monetize |
Ask permission and credit | Message the author, get a clear yes, credit their username | Featuring one exceptional real story |
Heavy rewrite with commentary | Retell the idea in your own words and add your own reaction or lesson | Commentary-style channels |
AutoReels uses the first option: it writes an original story for every video in the style you choose, so there's no one else's post to credit.
How to make a Reddit story video with AI, step by step
With AutoReels, the whole process takes about 5 minutes to set up and then runs daily.
- Pick your story lane. Choose one type and stick to it: relationship drama, workplace stories, family secrets, petty revenge or creepy encounters. One lane per channel helps the algorithm find the right viewers.
- Create a series with a Reddit-style prompt. For example: "First-person Reddit-style stories about roommate drama, with a twist at the end." AutoReels writes an original story for every video.
- Choose a voice. A natural, conversational AI voice works best, like a friend telling you what happened.
- Pick a visual style. Moody art for creepy stories, bright and simple for drama. Keep one style so your videos are recognizable.
- Set the format and length. 9:16 for TikTok, Shorts and Reels. Aim for 45–90 seconds: the hook, the build-up and the twist.
- Connect your accounts and schedule. AutoReels posts each new story to TikTok, YouTube, Instagram and Facebook: 3 a week, once a day or twice a day.

8 Reddit story formats, with hooks you can adapt
Format | What it is | Example opening line |
|---|---|---|
"Am I in the wrong?" | A dilemma viewers argue about in the comments | "I refused to give my sister my wedding date, and now my whole family is mad at me." |
Petty revenge | Someone gets what they deserve, in a small, satisfying way | "My neighbor kept parking in my spot, so I followed the rules exactly." |
Workplace drama | Bosses, coworkers and HR chaos | "My manager took credit for my project in front of the CEO. He didn't know I'd recorded the meeting." |
Relationship secrets | Discoveries and confessions | "I found a second phone in my boyfriend's gym bag." |
Family twists | Inheritance, secrets and reunions | "At my grandmother's funeral, a stranger told me she wasn't my real grandmother." |
Creepy encounters | First-person horror | "Every night at 3:12 AM, someone knocks on my apartment door. I live on the 14th floor." |
Malicious compliance | Following silly rules to the letter | "My boss said to log every minute of my day. So I did." |
Wholesome endings | Unexpected kindness | "A stranger paid for my groceries, and two years later I found out who it was." |
What makes these work:
- Start at the most tense moment, then explain how it got there.
- Keep one twist near the end, and reveal it in the last 10 seconds.
- End with a question ("Was I wrong?") to drive comments, which boost reach.
- Use "Part 2" for longer stories, so viewers follow to see the ending.
FAQ
Is it legal to make videos from Reddit stories?
Reddit posts belong to their authors. Using a real post word for word in a monetized video without permission is risky. The safest route is to have AI write original Reddit-style stories, or to ask the author and credit them.
Can Reddit story channels be monetized on YouTube?
Yes, if the content is original and follows YouTube's policies. Channels that re-read other people's posts or upload near-identical videos risk being demonetized for reused or inauthentic content.
How long should a Reddit story video be?
For TikTok, Shorts and Reels, 45–90 seconds works well. Longer stories can be split into parts or turned into 5–10 minute YouTube videos.
What is the best AI Reddit story video maker?
One that writes original stories, adds a natural voice and captions, and posts for you. AutoReels does all three and publishes to TikTok, YouTube, Instagram and Facebook.
Do Reddit story videos still work on TikTok in 2027?
Yes. Story formats with a strong hook and a twist still hold attention well. The difference now is originality: fresh stories outperform recycled ones.
How much does AutoReels cost?
$144 a year for 3 videos a week, $276 for 1 a day, or $492 for 2 a day, with posting to four platforms included.
